Grape Arbor

In 2011 and 2012, volunteers rehabilitated this once-neglected area overtaken by vines and invasive plants. For his Eagle Scout project, local student Brandon Sides took down rusty posts from an arbor erected in the 1950s and replaced them with the pressure-treated one we enjoy today, retraining the old grape vines onto the new arbor. More Concord grapes were purchased and trained onto the arbor as well. Visitors enjoy passing under the shady structure as they follow the cobble-lined pathway on their way to or from the Hosta Garden, pausing to rest on the bench to admire the grapes infused with sunlight. Wetland shrubs growing along the path such as button bush, sweetpepper bush, swamp azalea, and cardinal flower segue nicely into the Butterfly Garden.
