Herb Garden

The Herb Garden hearkens back to an 18th century design, replete with medicinal, culinary, and strewing herbs. On warm July mornings the air is scented with lavender, lemon balm, and rosemary. The garden is planted around an old field stone foundation thought to be from a historical home belonging to John Craigin in the late 1700s; around this time, the structure was moved and joined to the Faulkner House in South Acton, but the foundation remains. Visitors are invited to bask on the stone benches, inhale deeply, and imagine themselves in a colonial apothecary, back when the herb garden was a mainstay of life and health.
