Swale Garden

The Swale Garden is a tranquil buffer of bayberry, winterberry, and native dogwoods—among other hardy species—planted along the brook running parallel to Taylor Road. A wooden footbridge adorned with roses traverses the Swale Garden, connecting the Crabapple Allee to the main lawn. Dense shrubs provide habitat and act as a travel corridor for wildlife; many invasive plants, such as multiflora rose, were extirpated from the area to make way for a more diverse collection. The Swale Garden was designed by Sandy Bayne in 1987.
