Summer 2024
All spring and summer, volunteer students and adults weeded an area adjacent to the utility shed at the intersection of the Orchard and Wildflower Trails. They removed invasive bittersweet, multiflora rose, and honeysuckle that dominated the area. A black walnut and a catalpa tree were taken down by professional arborists adjacent to the Orchard Trail. The arborists pruned an existing white crabapple. A renovated garden is under construction here, designed by Holly Ben-Joseph in memory of her mother, Nita. Donors are giving a magnolia and two crabapple trees in memory of loved ones. The Friends of the Acton Arboretum, Inc. are donating 5 native Lindera benzoin (commonly called Northern spicebush) shrubs in memory of Dawn Wang.
